Jairus’s Best Friends

Image
Jairus is such a likable guy- he’s got lots of great friends! Here’s a compilation of some of his best friends (friends he sees the most). Meet Selah, Rafi, Tyree, and Lรฉon. Two of these friends were born on the exact same day, another the day after, and the other three days before Jairus. They’re all within a month and a half of Jairus- perfect playmates! I’ll probably post more in the future of Jairus and his friendship adventures. Lots of love!

Biracial/Mixed Hair Journey #3 Hair Post

Image
Hey! Today was another fun day in my hair  journey with my son! He is currently 14 months old and his mixed hair is really coming in more a little each day. His beautiful curls are getting longer and other hair is getting thicker. There are a few products I’m still trying to get my hands on to feel my arsenal of hair care is stocked! Today we checked out a local beauty store in our area called Lee Supply. It had just about everything... except a few brands I’m trying to find! Regardless, I was pretty happy with the prices and happy with the options! I’m trying to find more sample products since my son’s hair will likely be changing a lot, and I don’t want to commit to large sizes. I went home with a Mixed Chicks Kids Conditioner (our third Mixed Chicks products but first specifically kid’s product), Jane Carter moisturizer (her products smell sooooo good!), and a double-sided comb! I understand some Mamas don’t even comb their children’s hair because it can cause damage and brea...

Snow/Cold Weather Day #5

Hey there! Yes... you read that right! We have had Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and now tomorrow (Friday) off! Being a teacher has sooo many perks! Now I pray our students are academically growing, but I also am thankful for this unplanned break. If it wasn’t for this polar vortex, I may not have started up this blog! I am thankful for the extra time I’ve had to be with my son, especially because starting next week I will be working as a tutor after school! That will mean about 9 hours away from my son three days a week instead of the usual 8. When you throw in other commitments, I am away from my son more than I would like to be. If only things could be perfectly according to my schedule, right? Thankfully my son and I have an amazing bond, and when I’m with him without work even on my mind, it’s like I never left. Having my husband stay home with him is beautiful too, because him and I are really one flesh as much as we argue about random nonsense haha! Anyone else know what...

Books on Celebrating Curly Hair

Image
This is the woman who inspired me on my hair journey with my son! She knows what she’s talking about! Here is the link to her blog for her post titled: “ 50+ Diverse Children’s Books to Celebrate Curly Hair .” She gives a summary of the book and link to be purchased. Here are a few of those books!  Happy reading! -Jessica

Not 100% Vegan Curly Hair Companies, but Vegan Options

Image
It’s been a lot sorting through what feels like the gazillions of natural hair products out there. Studies have shown that actually have less options increases happiness! Too many options is just...well...too much! So researching these products has become a hobby of mine. The world of hair products is not our oyster though because I am limiting products I use on my son’s mixed hair to: 1) specifically for curly/mixed hair 2) free of parables, sulfate, other harmful stuff that I’m learning about 3) vegan My last post was on 100% companies that are vegan and fit the criteria of 1 and 2 above where I don’t have to research ingredients, read labels, and dig to see if the products are vegan. These options below though are the product of lots of digging around. I really hope this helps someone because I didn’t find all of this cohesively synchronized on another blog, website, etc. Instead, I’ve synchronized a list of everything I could conclude was 100% vegan. This way, I don’t miss ...

100% Vegan Companies for Curly Hair

Image
Being a vegan, I read a lot of labels! When an entire company is vegan though, I can relax a bit and focus more on which specific product I want rather than having to read everything! I’ve been doing lots of research on curly hair products as I’ve started on a hair journey with my biracial son. The following are companies that are 100% vegan. Though I wish I could use Shea Moisture and all the Camille Rose products, they’re unfortunately not all vegan. Silk is a popular ingredient in the Shea Moisture products, and Camille Rose uses beeswax and honey in multiple products. I would have to dig to really find something and then stick with it. Though I’m all about supporting black-owned businesses, it’s a double win for me when it’s black-owned and vegan. These are not all black-owned, but they are 100% vegan and have products for curly hair. Yay!
